Autopilot and Expert mode

Autopilot runs the modules that fit your plugins with tested settings and keeps checking the site. Expert mode leaves every decision to you. Both use the same 15 modules.

Two modes, the same modules

Switch between them under CachePilot, Settings. Nothing is lost when you switch.

Expert mode

You decide every module

Every module and cache group is set by hand. Fields that Autopilot controls become editable.

  • Modules on and off by hand
  • Lifetimes per cache group, capped at their maximum when saved
  • No automatic re-check after updates
  • The log keeps recording changes

For sites with special requirements.

Autopilot

Default

CachePilot decides

Autopilot detects your plugins, runs the matching modules with tested values and checks the site again after changes.

  • Modules follow the active plugins
  • Safety check for Page Cache and Minify
  • Re-check 30 seconds after updates, self-check every hour
  • Your own switches and changed settings stay

Active after installation.

The 15 modules of CachePilot 1.4.2 and their conditions in Autopilot mode

The IDs are the ones the WP-CLI command wp cachepilot modules uses. Modules whose plugin is no longer active are switched off again.

Values Autopilot sets

  • Page Cache: a lifetime of 10 hours; the maximum is 12 hours, so nonces stay valid.
  • Options Optimizer: options larger than 10 KB stop loading on every request; the total of autoloaded options is flagged above 100 KB.
  • Lifetimes are set once. Values Autopilot learned later are kept.
  • Self-tuning uses sampled statistics of 1 in 50 requests and never raises lifetimes of price, cart, session, user or coupon data.

Modules you switch off by hand stay off in Autopilot mode, and Autopilot does not overwrite module settings you changed.
